Since the conception of the Internet and the World Wide Web companies and individuals have been creating pages of words, pictures, videos and music to share with the world. The first web pages were published in the early 1990’s written in a Hypertext Markup Language know as HTML, original pages would appear as simple text with images and were fairly plain and bland. Over the last two decades as the technology and internet languages have evolved the ability to view video listen to music and video chat with people on the other side of the world have all become possible.
Programming Languages
The original language for writing web pages was HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) which was used to create pages with paragraphs of text and images which could be linked together using Hypertext. As this language evolved it then became possible to add more complex information and media to the pages and software companies started to develop web editing software which would allow a user to input content into a page without the need for coding as it would add the necessary code automatically, these programs know as WYSIWIGS (What You See Is What You Get), made creating web pages more accessible. As the languages evolved to become more streamline and scalable, different types of programming languages have been developed for the internet including; PHP, AJAX, XHTML, XML, Python and Flash.
Small Business Web Design
Larger companies have generally been very quick to gain a presence on the web, however small businesses have sometimes been slow to realise the power of the internet. In recent times this has changed dramatically, and many small businesses now have a website and they are starting to realise the benefit of social media marketing. Software has now developed to such a degree that websites can be built from as little as a few hundred pounds, with content management systems allowing people to maintain and develop their sites.
