The construction market place is a wide and varied place. In general terms, construction is the building or assembling of infrastucture. It covers a huge range of things; houses, apartment blocks, bridges, roads, power stations, the list goes on.

The process of building generally involves a range of professionals; project managers, architects, structural engineers, construction managers, construction engineers and so on. They are then assisted by a team of construction workers.

Projects begin with the design team. It is their remit to take a brief and turn that into a reality (on paper!). They will look at the requirements and then come up with a design to meet the needs of the project. This will then need to be signed off by the client. The job will then normally be placed out to tender with a number of firms putting in bids for the job. After a thorough selection process, the job will be awarded to one, or a number of firms to complete. It will then be their responsibility to bring the design to life.

Procurement is a major part of the build process. The company responsible for the build will need to source a range of products that can include, precast concrete, retaining walls, windows, doors, paint....depending on the project, the list can be endless. The procurement process will be done in conjunction with the construction stage of the project so that products arrive on site at just the right time.
